Rifampicin 150 mg, INH 75 mg
Indications/Uses
For the continuation phase of short-course treatment of patients w/ pulmonary & extra-pulmonary TB.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult weighing >70 kg 5 tab/day; 55-70 kg 4 tab/day; 38-54 kg 3 tab/day; 30-37 kg 2 tab/day. Duration: 4 mth.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take at least 30 min before or 2 hr after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Severe hepatic damage, acute liver disease & acute gout.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ DM. May produce a reddish coloration of the urine, sweat, sputum & tears.
Adverse Reactions
Epigastric distress, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, jaundice. Rifampicin: Heartburn, flatulence, cramps & diarrhea. Thrombocytopenia, transient leukopenia, hemolytic anemia, decreased Hb, headache, fever, drowsiness, fatigue, ataxia, dizziness, mental confusion, behavioral changes, visual disturbances, elevations in BUN & serum uric acid, flushing & itching w/ or w/o rash, pruritus, urticaria, pemphigoid reaction, eosinophilia & conjunctivitis. INH: Severe agranulocytosis, hemolytic, sideroblastic or aplastic anemia, thrombocytopenia & eosinophilia, pyridoxine deficiency, pellagra, hyperglycemia, metabolic acidosis, gynecomastia, rheumatic syndrome & systemic lupus erythematosus.
Drug Interactions
Rifampicin: Phenytoin, antiarrhythmics, anticoagulants, antifungals, barbiturates, β-blockers, Ca-channel blockers, chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, corticosteroids, cyclosporine, cardiac glycoside, OCs, clofibrate, dapsone, diazepam. INH: Anticonvulsants, benzodiazepines, haloperidol, ketoconazole, theophylline & warfarin.
