Doxycycline hyclate
Indications/Uses
Infections caused by susceptible organisms (eg, chlamydia, rickettsia, brucella & Borrelia burgdorferi). Infections in the resp & genital mycoplasma, in acne, in destructive periodontal disease & for leptospirosis in penicillin allergy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 100 mg bid. Maintenance 100 mg daily. Gonococcal & non-gonococcal infections 100 mg bid for 7 days. Usually, 200 mg on the 1st day (as single or in divided doses) followed by 100 mg daily. Sensitive gonococcal infections 100 mg bid for 7 days. Syphilis 200 mg-300 mg daily in divided doses for at least 15 or 10 days, respectively. Acne 50 mg daily. Relapsing fever & louse borne typhus 100 mg or 200 mg as single dose.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Myasthenia gravis. Hepatic dysfunction. Renal insufficiency.
Adverse Reactions
GI effects (eg, nausea, vomiting & diarrhea); Dry mouth, glossitis & discoloration of the tongue, stomatitis, & dysphagia. Oesophageal ulceration.
