Indications/Uses
Topical treatment of facial acne vulgaris. Acne on the chest or back is appropriate for treatment. Topical gel 0.3%: Facial skin photoaging; minimize signs of photodamage skin which may include fine wrinkles & some types of hyperpigmentation eg, blemishes, related to sun exposures, & when use together w/ appropriate skin care & sunlight avoidance programs.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply a thin film to acne affected areas once daily at bedtime & after washing. Dry affected areas thoroughly prior application.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Cream: Women planning a pregnancy. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Allergic/hypersensitivity reactions; stop using if allergic or anaphylactoid/anaphylactic reactions, sensitivity or severe irritation occurs. Do not come into contact w/ eyes, mouth, angles of the nose or mucous membranes. Not to be applied to either broken (cuts & abrasions), sunburn or eczematous skin; severe acne involving large areas of the body. Avoid waxing. Concomitant use of other potentially irritating topical products (medicated or abrasive soaps & cleansers, soaps & cosmetics that have strong drying effect, products w/ high conc of alcohol, astringents, spices, or lime); prep containing sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid. Minimize exposure to sunlight & artificial UV irradiation, including sunlamps. Weather extremes eg, wind or cold. Cosmetic use (non-comedogenic & non-astringent). Contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) (topical gel & cream) & propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216) (cream only) that can cause allergic reactions. Pregnancy & lactation (do not use on the chest of nursing mothers). Childn <12 yr. Elderly ≥65 yr. Topical gel 0.3%: Patients <35 yr w/ facial photoaging. Cream: Neonates & young childn.
Adverse Reactions
Dry skin, skin irritation, skin burning sensation, erythema.
Drug Interactions
Not to be used w/ other retinoids or drugs w/ similar mode of action. May produce additive irritant effects w/ peeling agents, abrasive cleansers, strong drying agents, astringents or irritant products (aromatic & alcoholic agents).
