Indications/Uses
Pain & inflammation in rheumatoid disease (including juvenile arthritis) & other musculoskeletal disorders, acute gout, post-op pain.
Dosage/Direction for Use
75-150 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses. Childn 1-12 yr Juvenile arthritis 1-3 mg/kg daily in divided doses. Prevention of post-op pain Initially after surgery, 25-50 mg over 15-60 min then 5 mg/hr for max of 2 days. Max total daily dose: 150 mg.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to aspirin or other NSAIDs. History of stroke (CVA), heart attack (MI), CABG, uncontrolled HTN, CHF (NYHA II-IV). Previous or active peptic ulceration.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ cardiac, liver & renal disease.
Adverse Reactions
Stomach pain & cramps, headache, fluid retention, bloating, diarrhea, indigestion, nausea, constipation, gas, dizziness, rash, itching & ringing in the ears. Bleeding stomach ulcers & liver damage.
Drug Interactions
Avoid alcohol, aspirin & other NSAIDs. May prolong bleeding time w/ anticoagulants (eg, warfarin); increase levels or effects of cyclosporine, lithium, phenytoin & methotrexate; probenecid; reduce the effects of β-blockers & loop diuretics. May increase or decrease blood levels w/ cimetidine.
