Indications/Uses

Thromboembolic disorders & as prophylactic alternative to aspirin in patients w/ atherosclerosis who are at risk of thromboembolic disorders eg, MI, peripheral arterial disease & stroke.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Recent MI/stroke/established peripheral arterial disease 75 mg once daily. Acute coronary syndrome Initially 300 mg single loading dose & then continued at 75 mg once daily.

Administration

May be taken with or without food.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity. Active pathological bleeding eg, peptic ulcer or intracranial hemorrhage. Pregnancy & lactation.

Special Precautions

Active hepatic disease. Patients taking NSAIDs or aspirin, discontinue clopidogrel 7 days pre-op or any event when a normal platelet effect is needed.

Adverse Reactions

Headache, dizziness, depression, dyspnea, rhinitis, bronchitis, coughing, edema, HTN, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, arthralgia, back pain, fatigue & hypercholesterolemia.

Drug Interactions

May increase the intensity of bleeding w/ warfarin. Risk of bleeding w/ aspirin. Increased occult GI blood loss w/ NSAIDs.
