Indications/Uses

Contraception & treatment of menstrual disorders eg, dysmenorrhea, premenstrual syndrome & menorrhagia.

Dosage/Direction for Use

1 tab daily, may start w/in the 1st 5 days of menstrual bleeding for 28 days.

Overdosage

Administration

Should be taken on an empty stomach: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.

Contraindications

Liver & clotting disorders, breast & cervical cancer, sickle-cell anemia, hormone-active tumors, hyperlipidemia, severe CV diseases, previous or existing thromboembolic diseases, & idiopathic jaundice. Not recommended for pregnant women. Lactation.

Adverse Reactions

Headache, gastric upsets, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, changes in appetite, breast tenderness, changes in body wt & libido, depressive moods or may interfere w/ liver functions.

Drug Interactions

May decrease contraceptive efficacy w/ drugs for infection (ampicillin, chloramphenicol, neomycin, penicillin V, nitrofurantoin, sulfonamides, tetracycline & INH), pain (analgesics, antimigraine & tranquilizer) & hepatic enzyme inducers (carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, felbamate, topiramate, phenytoin), antifungal (griseofulvin), antidiabetic (troglitazone), musculoskeletal (phenylbutazone), anti-TB (rifampicin). May inhibit cytochrome P450 isoenzyme 3A4 w/ anti-infective drugs (clarithromycin, erythromycin, itraconazole, ketoconazole, ritonavir) or grapefruit juice. May increase risk of cholestatic jaundice w/ troleandomycin.
