Cetirizine diHCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of hypersensitivity reactions including rhinitis & chronic urticaria. Treatment of allergic conjunctivitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Adult & childn >12 yr 10 mg daily; childn 6-12 yr 5 mg bid or 10 mg once daily; 2-5 yr 5 mg once daily preferably as 2.5 mg bid. Oral soln Childn >12 yr 10 mL; 6-12 yr 10 mL as single dose or divided doses; 2-5 yr 5 mL daily preferably as 2.5 mL bid. Oral drops Childn >12 yr 1 mL once daily; 6-12 yr 1 mL once daily or in divided doses, 0.5 mL bid; 2-5 yr 0.5 mL once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Premature infants or neonates. Elderly.
Special Precautions
Epilepsy & severe CV disorders; renal impairment. May cause sleepiness & impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Avoid alcoholic drinks. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Sedation; hypotension, tinnitus, headache, dizziness, paresthesias, GI disturbances & blood disorders.
Drug Interactions
May enhance sedative effects of CNS depressants including alcohol, barbiturates, hypnotics, opioid analgesics, anxiolytic sedatives & neuroleptic. MAOIs may enhance antimuscarinic effects of other antihistamines, atropine, TCAs.
