Cefotaxime Na 1 g, sulbactam Na 500 mg
Indications/Uses
Infections caused by susceptible organisms including meningitis, lower resp tract infections, & intra-abdominal infections. Prophylaxis for surgical infection.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM/IV Adult Mild to moderate 1 g/0.5 g to 2 g/1 g cefotaxime/sulbactam every 8-12 hr, moderate to severe 1 g/0.5 g to 2 g/1 g cefotaxime/sulbactam every 6-8 hr. Childn 100 mg/50 mg to 150 mg/75 mg cefotaxime/sulbactam per kg/day in 3 divided doses.
Contraindications
History of allergy to cephalosporins, penicillins & β-lactams.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity. Possible cross-reactivity w/ penicillin-sensitive patients. History of colitis. Local irritation may occur on the infusion sites.  Renal insufficiency (CrCl <20 mL/min). Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Local reactions including inj site pain & phlebitis, skin rash, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting & colitis.
Drug Interactions
Increased risk of nephrotoxicity w/ aminoglycosides. False +ve direct Coombs' test results in certain patients (eg, those w/ azotemia).
