Indications/Uses
Prevent & treat osteoporosis, Ca malabsorption & deficiency conditions. Inadequate Ca intake can lead to osteoporosis, a disease where bones became fragile & brittle. Stooped posture & height reduction can result. Taken daily, it supplements the Ca obtained from the diet.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1-2 softgel cap daily or as directed by physician.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypercalcemia (eg, associated w/ sarcoidosis, hyperparathyroidism, hypervitaminosis D, certain cancers).
Special Precautions
In large doses, determine serum Ca conc & kidney function wkly or at 1st sign of hypercalcemia.
Adverse Reactions
Constipation, flatulence; MI; urolithiasis.
Drug Interactions
May enhance the cardiac effects of digitalis glycosides. May interfere w/ the absorption of tetracycline. Lower absorption w/ low protein diet. Depressed absorption w/ dietary phytates (nuts, legumes, grains & edible seeds) & oxalates (tea, green leafy vegetables).
