Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 5 mg once daily, may be increased to 10 mg once daily.

Overdosage

Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Sensitivity to dihydropyridines. Cardiogenic shock, recent MI or acute unstable angina.

Special Precautions
Patients w/ hypotension, poor cardiac reserve & w/ heart failure. Not for anginal attack in chronic stable angina. Severe aortic stenosis. Avoid sudden w/drawal. Patients w/ hepatic impairment. Discontinue use if ischemic pain occur  after administration. Pregnancy & lactation.

Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, flushing, headache, hypotension, peripheral edema, tachycardia & palpitations. Nausea, other GI disturbances, increased micturition frequency, lethargy, eye pain & mental depression; paradoxical increase in ischemic chest pain (start of treatment); hypersensitivity reactions; gingival hyperplasia, myalgia, tremor & impotence.

Drug Interactions
May enhance antihypertensive effects of other antihypertensive drugs (eg, β-blockers), aldesleukin, antipsychotics. May modify insulin & glucose responses by nifedipine. Quinidine, enzyme inducers (eg, carbamazepine, phenytoin & rifampicin), enzyme inhibitors (eg, cimetidine & erythromycin).
