Rasagiline mesilate
Indications/Uses
Monotherapy in idiopathic Parkinson's disease or adjunct therapy in patients w/ end of dose fluctuations.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 mg once daily w/ or w/o levodopa.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Concomitant use w/ other MAOIs or pethidine. Severe hepatic impairment.
Special Precautions
Mild hepatic impairment. Discontinue use if patients progress from mild to moderate hepatic impairment. Avoid concomitant use w/ fluoxetine or fluvoxamine (discontinuation w/ fluoxetine should elapse at least 5 wk & 14 days should elapse for initiation). May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, dyskinesia (w/ levodopa).
Drug Interactions
Dextromethorphan or sympathomimetics eg, nasal & oral decongestants or cold medicinal prep containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine.
