Indications/Uses
Treatment & prevention of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) progression by reducing prostate size, alleviating symptoms, improving urinary flow rate & reducing the risk of acute urinary retention & the need for BPH-related surgery alone or in combination w/ tamsulosin.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult male (including elderly) 1 cap once daily. Treatment of BPH Administered in combination w/ tamsulosin 0.4 mg.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not chew/open cap.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to dutasteride & other 5-α-reductase inhibitors. Women. Childn.
Special Precautions
Liver disease. Higher incidence of cardiac failure in combination w/ tamsulosin. Monitor prostate-specific antigen (PSA) values & evaluate men for prostate cancer risk (including PSA testing) regularly. Perform digital rectal exam & other evaluations for prostate cancer prior to therapy & periodically thereafter. Possible male breast cancer; long-term use. Pregnancy & lactation. Liver disease.
Adverse Reactions
Impotence, decreased libido; ejaculation & breast disorders (including breast tenderness & enlargement).
Drug Interactions
Increased blood conc & decreased clearance w/ verapamil & diltiazem.
