Candesartan cilexetil
Indications/Uses
Treatment of HTN, alone or in combination w/ other antihypertensives.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualized dosage. Initially 16 mg once daily as monotherapy in patients who are not vol-depleted. Total daily dose: 8-32 mg once or bid.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Severe hepatic impairment &/or cholestasis. Lactation.
Special Precautions
Vol- &/or salt-depleted patients. Renal impairment. Avoid alcohol. Childn <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, dizziness, asthenia, fever, paresthesia, vertigo, dyspepsia, gastroenteritis, tachycardia, palpitation, increased creatinine phosphokinase, hyperglycemia, hypertriglyceridemia, hyperuricemia, myalgia, epistaxis, anxiety, depression, somnolence, dyspnea.
Drug Interactions
Increase K conc eg, spironolactone & K supplements. Concomitant use w/ lithium may cause reversible increases in serum lithium conc & toxicity.
