Description
Each chewable tablet contains: Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) 500 mg.
Action
Ascortec contains Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C), a water soluble antioxidant which is needed for the body to develop and function properly, and plays an important role in the immune system.
Indications/Uses
Ascortec is indicated for the prevention and treatment of Vitamin C deficiency. Symptoms of Vitamin C deficiency are as follows: Swollen and bleeding gums; Loose teeth; Delayed healing of wounds; Easy bruising; Poor formation of bones; Dry, damaged skin; Persistent iron-deficiency anemia.
Ascortec will assist in preventing and treating the above conditions, and is especially valuable to growing children when the formation of bones and teeth are of utmost importance.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Ascortec should be taken orally (by mouth). The tablet should be chewed first before swallowing.
Adults: 1 to 2 tablets daily.
Children (above 3 years old): 1 tablet daily or as directed by the physician.
Missed Dose: Do not take a double dose, just skip the missed dose and go back to the regular dosing schedule.
Overdosage
Prolonged intake of Ascortec in excess of 2 grams per day may increase the risk of significant side effects (see Adverse Reactions).
If the patient has taken more than the recommended dosage, consult a doctor.
Contraindications
If the patient suffers an allergic reaction to any ingredient in this product. An allergic reaction may include itching, rash, swelling of the face, lips, tongue and throat with difficulty in swallowing or breathing.
Special Precautions
Ingestion of large quantities of Ascortec during pregnancy may result in increased requirements and Scurvy in neonates.
Ascortec should be use with cautions in patient with: Renal failure; Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency; Hemochromatosis or Sideroblastic anemia or Thalassemia; Sickle cell anemia.
Do not take more than the recommended dose.
Consult a Doctor: If any undesirable effects occur.
If the patient is pregnant, may be pregnant or is planning to have a baby.
If the patient is breast-feeding.
Adverse Reactions
When taken at appropriate doses, oral Vitamin C supplements are generally considered safe. Taking too much Vitamin C can cause side effects, including: Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea; Heartburn; Increase urination; Stomach cramps or bloating; Fatigue and sleepiness, or sometimes insomnia; Headache; Skin flushing.
In some people, oral Vitamin C can cause kidney stones, especially when taken in high doses.
Drug Interactions
Tell the doctor or pharmacist if the patient is taking, has recently taken or may take any other medicines.
Vitamin C tablets may interfere with other medicines that may be taken by the patient. This includes medicines that can be bought without a prescription, including herbal medicines. In particular, tell the doctor if the patient is taking any of the following: Barbiturate or Primidone, Deferoxamine, Disulfiram, Mexiletine, Salicylates.
Storage
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C, in a well closed container.
