Paracetamol
Indications/Uses
Lowering of fever accompanying flu, common colds, tonsillitis, measles, pneumonia & other infections. Relief of headache, dysmenorrhea, rheumatism, arthritis & other muscle skeletal disorder. IV Short-term treatment of moderate pain, particularly after surgery & of fever.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Adult Mild cases 1 tab tid-qid. Moderate to severe cases 2 tab tid-qid. Syr Childn 7-12 yr 5-10 mL, 2-6 yr 2.5-5 mL, 3-6 yr 10 mL tid-qid, 1-3 yr 5 mL tid-qid. Infant 2.5 mL (tid-qid). Drops Childn 1-2 yr 1.2-1.8 mL. Infant 6 mth-1 yr 0.6-1.2 mL, <6 mth 0.3-0.6 mL. To be taken every 4-6 hr. IV infusion Infuse over 15 min. Patient >50 kg 1 g as single dose every 4 or more hr. Max: 4 g daily, 33-50 kg 15 mg/kg as single dose every 4 or more hr. Max: 60 mg/kg or 3 g daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Impaired kidney or liver function.
Adverse Reactions
Thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, pancytopenia, neutropenia, agranulocytosis; severe liver damage (overdosage).
Drug Interactions
Increased toxicity w/ other potentially hepatotoxic drugs or liver microsomal enzyme inducers. May accelerate absorption w/ metoclopramide. Altered plasma conc & excretion w/ probenecid. Reduced absorption w/ colestyramine.
