Prevention & treatment of damages due to faulty or deficient protein metabolism in CKD in connection w/ a limited dietary protein intake of ≤40 g/day (adult); usually w/ GFR <25 mL/min.
Administer as long as GFR <25 mL/min & restrict dietary protein to ≤40 g/day (adult). Childn.
Drug Interactions
May cause or aggravate elevated serum Ca levels w/ Ca-containing drugs. Disturbed absorption w/ drugs that form hardly soluble compd w/ Ca eg, tetracyclines, quinolones (eg, ciprofloxacin & norfloxacin) as well as drugs containing Fe, fluoride or estramustine. An interval of at least 2 hr should elapse between intake of other drugs.
