Paracetamol
Indications/Uses
Headache, toothache, fever associated w/ colds, menstrual pain, muscle pain & flu.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-2 tab every 6-8 hr. Childn ½-1 tab every 6-8 hr.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Avoid long-term use in patients w/ anemia or w/ heart, lung, kidney, or liver disease.
Special Precautions
Severe liver damage. Concomitant use w/ ≥3 alcoholic drinks/day. Do not use w/ any other medicine containing paracetamol. Kidney or liver problems. Patient taking warfarin. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Skin rashes, hypersensitivity reactions, changes in number of WBC & platelets, & minor stomach & intestinal disturbances.
Drug Interactions
Accelerated absorption w/ metoclopramide or domperidone. Reduced absorption w/ cholestyramine. May increase susceptibility to harmful effects to the liver w/ phenobarb. Increased INR & risk for bleeding w/ warfarin. Increases the anticoagulation effect of warfarin.
