Allopurinol
Indications/Uses
Primary or secondary hyperuricemia associated w/ chronic gout, uric acid nephropathy, recurrent uric acid stone formation, enzyme disorders & cancer therapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Mild gout 100-300 mg daily. Moderately severe gout 300-600 mg daily. Prevention of acute uric acid nephropathy during therapy w/ antineoplastic agent 600-800 mg for 2-3 days. Childn 6-10 yr Hyperuricemia secondary to neoplastic disease 300 mg daily adjusted if necessary after 48 hr; <6 yr 150 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Special Precautions
Acute attack of gout; skin reactions (discontinue). Tartrazine content may cause allergic reactions. Renal or hepatic impairment. Lactation.
