Procedures for rapid & short-acting topical ophth anesth eg, in suture removal from the cornea or conjunctiva, tonometry, gonioscopy, removal of corneal foreign bodies, conjuctival scraping for diagnostic purposes, & other short corneal & conjunctival procedures.
Tonometry & other procedures of short duration Instill 1-2 drops prior to evaluation. Minor surgical procedures eg, foreign body or suture removal Instill 1-2 drops every 5-10 min for 1-3 doses. Prolonged anesth Instill 1-2 drops in the eye every 5-10 min for 3-5 doses.
Prolonged use may diminish duration of anesth & may result in corneal infection &/or opacification w/ permanent visual loss or corneal perforation. Corneal epithelial toxicity may manifest as epithelial defects which may progress to permanent corneal damage. Cardiac disease or hyperthyroidism. May cause allergic contact dermatitis. Benzalkonium Cl content may cause eye irritation & discolor soft contact lenses. Avoid wearing contact lens. Avoid contact w/ skin. Do not rub eye(s) & instill repeatedly. Avoid accidental eye injuries. May impair ability to drive & use machines. Pregnancy & lactation.
