Salbutamol sulfate
Indications/Uses
Relief of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis & emphysema.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 10 mL tid-qid. Childn >12 yr 5-10 mL tid-qid, 7-12 yr 5 mL tid-qid, 2-6 yr 2.5-5 mL tid-qid.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Concomitant use w/ other sympathomimetics. Patients w/ thyroid disorders, myocardial insufficiency, arrhythmia, HTN, susceptibility to QT-interval prolongation & DM. May cause serious bronchoconstriction in asthmatic patients. Risk of hypokalemia w/ corticosteroids, diuretics or xanthines.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Hand tremors, nervous tension, hyperacidity, restlessness, headache, increased heart rate, palpitations, tachycardia, hyperglycemia, peripheral vasodilation. Potentially serious hypokalemia & myocardial ischemia. Hypersensitivity reactions including paradoxical bronchospasm, angioedema, urticaria, hypotension & collapse.
Drug Interactions
Propranolol. Increased risk of hypokalemia w/ corticosteroids, diuretics, xanthines.
