Pimecrolimus is used to treat mild to moderate eczema (a condition that makes the skin red, dry, cracked and itchy) in patients 2 years and older who are not responding to other topical treatment.
Apply Pimecrolimus exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not apply more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Follow these steps:
- Wash your hands.
- Clean and dry affected area before application.
- Apply a thin layer and rub gently on the skin until it disappears. Do not cover, wrap or bandage the area unless instructed by the doctor.
- Wash your hands after using.
- Replace the cap of the tube.
Avoid contact with eyes or mouth, or the inside of your nose. Rinse immediately with water if this medicine gets into your eyes or mouth. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes.
Try to apply it at the same time each day.
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- bacterial or viral infection of the skin (e.g. herpes simplex, chicken pox)
- weakened immune system
- skin disorders (e.g Netherton’s syndrome)
- lymph nodes disorder
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Apply sunscreen when going outdoors, cover the skin with appropriate clothing and avoid direct or prolonged exposure to sunlight and UV lamps.
Pimecrolimus may cause the following side effects: burning sensation, skin irritation, and skin infections (e.g cold sore, shingles).
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking or using any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. Do not freeze.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
