Difluprednate
Indications/Uses
Inflammation & pain associated w/ ocular surgery. Uveitis, ocular surface diseases eg, blepharitis & corneal inflammation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Post-op Instill 1 drop into conjunctival sac of affected eye(s) qds beginning 24 hr after surgery & throughout 1st 2 wk of post-op period, followed by bd for 1 wk. Uveitis Instill 1 drop into conjunctival sac of affected eyes qds for 14 days. Blepharitis Instill 1 drop into conjunctival sac of affected eyes bd for 1 wk & then once daily for 1 wk.
Contraindications
Most viral diseases of the cornea & conjunctiva, mycobacterial eye infection & fungal diseases of ocular structures.
Special Precautions
Fungal infections of the cornea may develop w/ long-term use. Prolonged use. Patients w/ history of herpes simplex. Monitor IOP if used for ≥10 days. Pregnancy & lactation. Ped patients.
Adverse Reactions
Glaucoma w/ optic nerve damage, visual acuity & field defects, cataract formation, secondary ocular infection following suppression of host response, & globe perforation.
