Nandrolone helps strengthen thin and weak bones in post menopausal women who have or are at risk of osteoporosis. This medicine helps stop the loss of bone, increase bone mass and reduce the chances of getting a fracture.
Nandrolone is to be given intramuscularly (into the muscle such as the buttocks, upper leg or upper arm).
Your doctor or nurse will administer the injection for you.
Ensure that you keep all appointments with your doctor so that you do not miss any dose. Your doctor also needs to regularly monitor your response to Nandrolone.
If you miss an appointment or miss an injection, alert your doctor or nurse. A replacement appointment or injection should be given as soon as possible.
Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- porphyria (an inherited disorder that may cause skin or nerve problems)
- nephritis (inflammation of the kidneys)
- allergic to peanut or soya
as Nandrolone may not be suitable for you.
Do not use Nandrolone if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby soon. If you become pregnant while being treated with this medicine, alert your doctor immediately. Nandrolone may cause harm to your unborn child. You must use proven birth control methods while using this medicine.
Do not breastfeed while being treated with Nandrolone.
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- heart disease or high blood pressure
- epilepsy (fits or seizures)
- migraine
- diabetes
- tumour
- kidney disease
- liver disease
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving this medicine to a child.
For as long as you are using Nandrolone, you may need to have regular blood tests to check your body's response to the medicine. Your doctor will advise you about how often you need to have these tests.
Nandrolone may cause any of the following side effects: pain at the injection site, swelling of the ankles or feet, acne, nausea, vomiting and changes in skin color.
Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
- hoarseness of the voice
- irregular menstrual cycles
- enlargement of the clitoris
- increased body or facial hair
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
- blood-thinning medicine e.g. warfarin
- medicines for diabetes e.g. insulin
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Do not allow to freeze. If frozen, this medicine will become ineffective and should not be used.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
