Indications/Uses

Prophylaxis of organ rejection (allogeneic renal, cardiac or hepatic transplants) in combination w/ cyclosporin & corticosteroids.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Renal transplant Adult 1 g bd. Childn & adolescents 2-18 yr 600 mg/m² orally bd (max: 2 g daily). Elderly 1 g bd. Cardiac transplant Adult 1.5 g bd. Elderly 1.5 g bd. Hepatic transplant Adult Administer mycophenolate IV for the 1st 4 days following hepatic transplant w/ oral mycophenolate 1.5 g bd. Elderly 1.5 g bd.

Overdosage

View Mycophen overdosage for action to be taken in the event of an overdose.

Administration

May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not crush/open. In stable renal transplant patients, may be administered w/ meals if necessary.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity. Pregnancy. Lactation. Childn <2 yr.

Special Precautions

Increased risk of developing lymphomas & other malignancies eg skin. Increased risk for opportunistic infections (bacterial, fungal, viral & protozoal), fatal infections & sepsis. Perform complete blood counts wkly during the 1st mth & regularly thereafter. Avoid live attenuated vaccines. Active serious digestive system disease. Lesch-Nyhan & Kelley-Seegmiller syndrome. Concomitant administration w/ medicinal products that interfere w/ enterohepatic recirculation.

Adverse Reactions

Acne, constipation, diarrhea, difficulty in sleeping, dizziness, gas, headache, heartburn, loss of appetite, nausea & vomiting, pain, skin rash, weakness.

Drug Interactions

Aciclovir, valaciclovir, Mg- & Al-containing antacids, cholestyramine, ganciclovir, rifampicin, sirolimus, sevelamer, ciprofloxacin or amoxicillin plus clavulanic acid, probenecid, live vaccines.
