Mizolastine helps relieve symptoms of rhinitis (inflammation of the mucous membranes in the nose) such as runny nose, itch, watery eyes and sneezing. It also helps relieve allergic skin conditions such as hives and itchy rash.
Take Mizolastine exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by the doctor.
Try to take it at the same time each day.
You may stop taking Mizolastine once you feel better, unless your doctor has instructed you otherwise.
Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- heart disease e.g. history of irregular or abnormal heartbeat
- low potassium level in the blood
- severe liver disease
as Mizolastine may not be suitable for you.
Do not take Mizolastine with certain antibiotics (e.g. erythromycin), medicines for fungal infection (e.g. ketoconazole), and medicines for irregular heartbeat (e.g. amiodarone). Please see the section “Can I take this with other medicines?” below for more information.
Inform your doctor if you have mild to moderate liver disease.
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Mizolastine to a child or the elderly. Children or elderly people may be more sensitive to the side effects.
Mizolastine may cause drowsiness. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.
Other side effects may include any of the following: dry mouth, stomach discomfort, nausea, diarrhoea, headache, increased appetite, and weight gain.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Do not take Mizolastine with the following medicines:
- certain antibiotics e.g. erythromycin
- medicines for fungal infection e.g. ketoconazole
- medicines for irregular heartbeat e.g. amiodarone
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Mizolastine.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
