Miconazole is used to treat fungal infections of the skin and nails.
Apply Miconazole exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not apply more or less than instructed by your doctor.
This medicine is available as a cream, powder or spray (powder).
If you have been given a cream or powder, follow these steps:
- Wash your hands.
- Clean and dry the affected area before application.
- Apply the cream or powder onto the infected area. Do not cover, wrap or bandage the area unless instructed by the doctor.
- Wash your hands after applying the medicine.
Miconazole spray (powder) is used for athlete’s foot. To use the spray, follow these steps:
- Clean and dry the affected area before applying this medicine.
- Shake the can well. Hold the can at least 3 inches from your skin, then spray on the affected area. You may also spray the powder inside your socks and shoes.
Avoid any contact of this medicine with your eyes or mouth. Avoid inhaling the powder. Rinse immediately with water if this medicine accidentally gets into your eyes or mouth. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes or if you develop breathing difficulties.
The dose of this medicine will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment timeframe depending on your condition and response to the medication.
Use Miconazole at regular intervals. Do not skip any doses. You must complete the entire course of this medicine. If you don't, the infection will not be properly controlled.
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
If you often forget to use your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not use this medicine if you ever had an allergic reaction (rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to Miconazole or any other similar medicines for fungal infections.
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Maintain good hygiene as this is important in managing fungal infections.
Dry your toes thoroughly and keep your toenail short. Do not share clothing especially those that come into direct contact with the affected area, such as socks. Wash them properly and change them frequently to avoid spreading the infection to other areas of your body or to other people.
Miconazole may cause any of the following side effects: skin irritation such as burning sensation, itching, swelling, redness, and rashes on the application site.
If you develop rashes, breathlessness, swollen face, eyes, mouth, or throat, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor quickly. These could be signs of an allergic reaction.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking blood-thinning medicines such as warfarin.
Let your doctor know if you are using any creams, ointments, or other medicines on the affected area.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Store in a cool, dry place, away from the reach of children.
Keep the spray powder away from direct sunlight, heat, open flame, or while smoking. Do not puncture the container or burn even when empty.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
