Isotretinoin is used to treat mild to moderate acne vulgaris (common acne or pimple).
Use Isotretinoin exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.
To use the gel, follow these steps:
- Wash your hands.
- Wash the affected area and let it dry before applying the medicine.
- Apply a thin layer of gel over the entire affected area.
- Wash your hands after each application.
- Replace the cap of the tube.
The frequency of application of this medicine will be decided by your doctor. It may take several weeks to see the full effect of this medicine. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment timeframe depending on the severity of your condition.
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
If you often forget to apply your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not use Isotretinoin if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby soon. If you become pregnant while being treated with this medicine, alert your doctor immediately. Isotretinoin may cause harm to your unborn child. You must use proven birth control methods while using this medicine.
Do not breastfeed while you are being treated with this medicine.
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- history of sensitivity to sunlight or UV light
- personal or family history of skin cancer
- rosacea (a skin condition that causes redness and noticeable blood vessels in the face)
- facial rash that occurs around the mouth
Be careful when applying this medicine to sensitive areas, such as the neck.
If you have a sunburn, your doctor may advise you to delay the application of this medicine until your sunburn is resolved.
Avoid application of this medicine to eczematous skin (red and itchy skin).
Avoid application or contact of this medicine to the eyes, mouth and inside of the nose. Rinse immediately with water if it gets into your eyes, mouth and nose. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes.
Do not share or give this medicine to anyone else.
Isotretinoin may cause any of the following side effects: dryness, redness, itching, peeling, burning sensation, or irritation of the skin.
This medicine may also make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Apply sunscreen or wear protective clothing when going outdoors and avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and UV lamps.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are using any other medicines on the affected area such as benzoyl peroxide (other medicine for pimples).
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking or using any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Contents are flammable. Avoid exposure of this medicine to fire, heat, and open flames.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
