Isotretinoin
Indications/Uses
Severe form of nodulo-cystic acne which is resistant to previous therapy, particularly cystic acne.
Dosage/Direction for Use
0.5-1 mg/kg body wt daily in 2 divided doses for 15-20 wk. Max: 2 mg/kg body wt daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hepatic & renal insufficiency. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Dry skin & lip, photosensitivity, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, anorexia, gingivitis, conjunctivitis, dark adaptation disturbances, lenticular cataract, visual disturbances, headache, depression.
Drug Interactions
Vit A, minocyclines, tetracyclines, alcohol. Benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, tretinoin or other topical antiacne drugs.
