Insunova-R (Regular) Human insulin. Insunova-G Insulin glargine. Insunova-N (NPH) Isophane insulin. Insunova-30/70 (Biphasic) Biphasic isophane insulin (mixt of 30% insulin & 70% isophane insulin)
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Insunova-R (vial & cartridge) 1-4 times daily. Insunova-G Once daily at the same time each day. Type 2 DM Can be given w/ oral antidiabetic drugs. Insunova-N (vial & cartridge) 1-2 times daily. Insunova-30/70 (vial & cartridge) Premixed insulin is usually given 1-2 times daily.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Inadequate dosage or discontinuation of treatment may lead to hyperglycemia & diabetic ketoacidosis. Monitor blood glucose regularly & adjust dose if necessary especially during concomitant illness, changes in physical activities & diet. Excessive alcohol consumption. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn & elderly. Insunova-G Not the insulin of choice for diabetic ketoacidosis, administer regular insulin instead.
Adverse Reactions
Hypoglycaemia. Anaphylactic reactions, lipodystrophy, oedema.
Drug Interactions
Oral hypoglycemic drugs, octreotide, MAOIs, nonselective β-blocking agents, ACE inhibitors, salicylates, alcohol & anabolic steroids. OCs, thiazides, glucocorticoids, thyroid hormones & sympathomimetics, danazol. α-lipoic acid, chromium, ephedra, Ginkgo biloba, ginseng. Insunova-G May enhance blood-glucose-lowering effect w/ disopyramide, fibrates, fluoxetine, pentoxifylline, propoxyphene, sulphonamide antibiotics. May reduce blood-lowering-effect w/ corticosteroids, diazoxide, diuretics, glucagon, isoniazid, phenothiazine derivatives, somatropin, thyroid hormones, atypical antipsychotics, protease inhibitors. May either potentiate or weaken blood-glucose-lowering effect w/ clonidine, lithium salts.
