Tranexamic acid
Indications/Uses
Short-term use for haemorrhage in increased fibrinolysis or fibrinogenolysis. Hereditary angioneurotic oedema.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cap 15-25 mg/kg bd-tds. Menorrhagia 1 g tds for up to 4 days. Max: 4 g daily. Hereditary angioedema 1-1.5 g bd-tds. Slow IV Local fibrinolysis 0.5-1.3 g tds.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
History of thromboembolic disease & severe renal impairment.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ irregular menstrual bleeding & w/ a high risk for thrombosis. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <15 yr w/ menorrhagia. Elderly w/ renal failure.
Adverse Reactions
GI discomfort eg nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea.
