Contents
Theophylline 200 mg, salbutamol sulfate 4 mg
Indications/Uses
Relief & prevention of reversible bronchoconstriction in COPD. Treatment of refractory bronchial asthma.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to xanthine. Peptic ulcer, underlying seizure disorders.
Special Precautions
Hypoxemia, HTN, cardiac disease, CHF, coronary insufficiency, alcoholism; history of peptic ulcer. Convulsive disorders, hyperthyroidism, DM. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn & elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, diarrhoea. Headache, irritability, insomnia, muscle twitching, clonic & tonic generalized convulsions. Palpitation, tachycardia, extrasystoles, flushing, hypotension, ventricular arrhythmias. Tachypnoea; potentiation of diuresis; alopecia, rash. Nervousness, tremor.
Drug Interactions
Decreased theophylline levels w/ barbiturates, charcoal, ketoconazole, rifampicin, smoking & sulfinpyrazone. Increased theophylline levels w/ allopurinol, β-blockers, Ca-channel blockers, cimetidine, OCs, corticosteroids, disulfiram, ephedrine, interferon, macrolides & quinolones. Avoid w/ sympathomimetic agents. Inhibit effect of MAOIs, TCAs.
