Dolasetron is used to prevent nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy (cancer treatment) and surgery.
Take Dolasetron exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
If you are on chemotherapy, take this medicine 1 hour before treatment.
If you are going for an operation, take this medicine 2 hours before surgery.
If you're not able to swallow the tablets, you may take Dolasetron injection orally by diluting it in apple or apple-grape juice. The solution must be consumed within 2 hours after mixing.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- heart disease
- kidney disease
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving this medicine to a child.
Dolasetron may make you drowsy or dizzy. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.
This medicine may also cause any of the following side effects: headache, tiredness, diarrhoea, indigestion, chills, unable to urinate, and skin rash.
Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience irregular heartbeat.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
- medicines for ulcer e.g. cimetidine
- medicines to treat TB (lung infection known as tuberculosis) e.g. rifampicin
- medicines for high blood pressure or heart disease e.g. atenolol, verapamil
- medicines used to treat water retention (water pills) e.g. furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Dolasetron.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. Protect from light.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
