Brinzolamide is used to treat certain types of glaucoma (increase pressure in the eyes) and other causes of high pressure in the eye.
This medicine helps to lower the pressure in the eyes. If left untreated, an increase in pressure within the eye can cause loss of vision and damage to the eyes.
Use Brinzolamide in the affected eye(s) exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.
How to use eye drop solution:
1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before using the eye drop.
2. Shake bottle well before using.
3. Tilt your head slightly backwards and with the index finger, pull the lower eyelid away from the eye to form a pouch and look upwards.
4. Instill the required number of drops inside the lower eyelid.
5. Close your eye and gently press the corner of your eye (near the nose bridge) for 1 minute.
6. Wipe any excess liquid from your face with a clean tissue.
7. Replace and tighten the cap of the bottle.
Do not touch/wipe/ rinse the dropper tip, and do not let the dropper tip touch the eye, eyelids or other surfaces.
If you have been given another eye drop to be used together with Brinzolamide Eye Drop, wait for at least 10 minutes before applying the second eye drop.
Do not stop treatment with this medicine unless your doctor has advised you to do so.
Do not share your eye drop with anyone else.
Use the eye drops as soon as you remember.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances. Using too much Brinzolamide may make it less effective in lowering eye pressure.
If you often forget to use your eye drops, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease.
Do not use Brinzolamide Eye Drops if you wear soft contact lenses, as the preservative contained in it may affect the contact lenses. If you are wearing contact lenses, remove them before using Brinzolamide and wait for 15 minutes before wearing your contact lenses again. Do not wear your contact lenses if your eyes are red.
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Inform your doctor if you have other eye problems or if you are about to have or have had surgery performed on your eyes.
You will need to have your eyes checked regularly to monitor the pressure in your eyes. It is important that you keep all appointments with your doctor.
Brizolamide may cause blurred vision. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity for which you need to see clearly.
Other side effects include any of the following: eye irritation, redness or pain, tearing, dry eyes, abnormal eye sensation, runny or blocked nose and headache. Inform your doctor if these side effects are severe or if they do not go away.
There may also be a bitter taste in your mouth after you apply Brinzolamide eye drops. This is normal and harmless.
Inform your doctor if you these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are using any of these medicines:
- medicines to treat fungal infections e.g. ketoconazole itraconazole
- medicines to treat viral infections e.g. ritonavir
- antibiotics e.g. troleandomycin
- other medicines for glaucoma e.g. acetazolamide, dorzolamide
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Brinzolamide.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. The bottle should be placed in the carton after use to protect the contents from light. Light may cause the medication to lose some of its effectiveness. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in used.
Do not use for longer than 28 days after the seal on the bottle has been broken.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
