Fe sucrose
Indications/Uses
Fe deficiency for rapid Fe supply; patients intolerant of oral Fe therapy or patients who are non-compliant; active inflammatory bowel disease where oral Fe prep are ineffective.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualised dosage. Adult & elderly 5-10 mL 1-3 times wkly depending on Hb level. Childn Not to exceed 0.15 mL/kg 1-3 times wkly depending on Hb level.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Anaemia not caused by Fe deficiency, Fe overload or hereditary Fe utilisation.
Special Precautions
Allergic or anaphylactoid reactions. Hypersensitivity reactions progressing to Kounis syndrome. History of asthma, eczema, other atopic allergies or allergic reactions to other parenteral Fe prep; acute or chronic infection. Avoid paravenous leakage as pain, inflammation, tissue necrosis & brown skin discolouration may occur. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Hepatic dysfunction. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Dysgeusia; hypotension, HTN; nausea; inj site reaction; hypersensitivity, anaphylactoid/anaphylactic reactions.
