Why do I need this medicine?
Triazolam is a sleeping pill. It is used for the short-term treatment of insomnia (difficulty sleeping).
How do I take this medicine?
Take Triazolam exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Take it on an empty stomach before going to bed.

Do not take Triazolam for a longer period of time than instructed by your doctor. See your doctor if this medicine does not seem to help you.

Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly as it may worsen your condition. Your doctor will gradually reduce the dose before stopping it completely. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.
What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
When should I not use this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness disorder)
  • depression with suicidal tendencies
as Triazolam may not be suitable for you.

Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby soon. If you become pregnant while being treated with Triazolam, alert your doctor immediately. This medicine may cause harm to your unborn child. You must use proven birth control methods while taking Triazolam.

Do not breastfeed while you are being treated with this medicine.

Do not take Triazolam with strong painkillers, medicines used to treat fungal infection, HIV infection, and depression. Please see the section "Can I take this with other medicines?" below for more information.
What should I take note of while taking this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • respiratory depression (slow or ineffective breathing)
  • sleep apnoea (sleep disorder that causes interrupted breathing during sleep)
  • lung problems (e.g. chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [a long-term lung disease that causes airflow obstruction making it hard to breathe])
  • depression
  • mood disorder
  • fits or seizures
  • glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)
  • history of alcohol or drug abuse
  • kidney disease
  • liver disease
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Flurazepam to the elderly or debilitated individual (physically or mentally weak, usually due to illness or old age). Elderly people and debilitated individuals may be more sensitive to the side effects.

Keep your appointments with your doctor. Your doctor needs to monitor your condition and check your response to the medication regularly.

Practice good sleeping habits to reduce reliance on Triazolam. These are some good sleeping habits which you should follow:
  • Try to relax before bedtime. Do not engage in strenuous activities.
  • Try to go to bed at about the same time every night.
  • Have a light dinner. A heavy dinner may disturb your sleep.
  • Avoid caffeine in the evening. Caffeine-containing food and drinks include coffee, tea, certain soft drinks and even chocolate.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol before bedtime.
  • Keep your bedroom quiet, dark and airy.
  • Avoid taking naps, especially in the late afternoon.
What side effects could I experience?
Triazolam may cause drowsiness, sleepiness, and impaired alertness. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

This medicine may cause abnormal activities during sleep, such as driving, cooking, eating and walking while you are still asleep. Alert your doctor quickly if this happens.

Other side effects include any of the following: headache, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, dry mouth, weakness, tiredness, pains or cramps, and altered taste.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
  • signs and symptoms of respiratory depression e.g. severe shortness of breath, extreme tiredness
  • signs and symptoms of allergic reactions e.g. rashes, breathlessness, swelling of the face, throat, and lips
  • unusual changes in behaviour (being too depressed, aggressive, or having compulsive and impulsive behaviour)
  • hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not existent)
  • having thoughts of self-harm
  • memory loss or problems
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I take this with other medicines?
Do not take Triazolam with the following medicines:
  • medicines to treat fungal infection e.g. itraconazole, ketoconazole
  • medicines for HIV infection e.g. lopinavir, ritonavir
  • strong painkillers e.g. codeine, oxycodone, morphine
  • nefazodone (medicine to treat depression)
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
  • other medicines for sleep disorders e.g. daridorexant, lemborexant
  • medicines that cause drowsiness or affect your concentration e.g. flunitrazepam, zolpidem
  • medicines for mood disorders e.g. bromperidol, olanzapine, clozapine
  • medicines for high blood pressure e.g. verapamil, diltiazem
  • medicines for epilepsy (fits or seizures) e.g. phenobarbital, phenytoin
  • certain antibiotics e.g. erythromycin, clarithromycin
  • medicines for anxiety
  • medicines to block pain and sensation
  • disulfiram (medicine to treat alcoholism or alcohol abuse)
  • cimetidine (medicine that neutralises stomach acids)
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Triazolam.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
What special dietary instructions should I follow?
Avoid alcohol. Alcohol intake may worsen the dizziness and drowsiness caused by Triazolam.

Avoid excessive consumption of grapefruit or grapefruit juice (more than 1 litre a day).
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Protect them from light.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
