Why do I need this medicine?
Sulodexide is used to treat diseases of the blood vessels with increased risk of blood clots such as:
  • peripheral arterial occlusive disease (narrowing or blockage of an artery in the legs)
  • deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in your leg veins)
  • transient ischaemic attack (temporary period of symptoms similar to those of a stroke)
  • cerebrovascular disease (conditions that affect blood flow and the blood vessels in the brain)
  • diabetic retinopathy (a diabetes complication that affects the eyes)
  • diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage that can occur in people with diabetes)
  • diabetic nephropathy (a type of kidney disease that may occur in people with diabetes)
  • heart attack
  • venous leg ulcers (sores that usually develop on the inside of the leg, just above the ankle that take longer to heal)
How do I take this medicine?
Take Sulodexide exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Take this medicine on an empty stomach. Try to take it at the same time each day.

The dose of Sulodexide will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment timeframe depending on your condition.
What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
When should I not use this medicine?
Do not take Sulodexide if you ever had an allergic reaction (e.g. rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to this medicine or similar medicines such as heparin and heparinoids.

Alert your doctor if you have bleeding disorders or a tendency to bleed or bruise easily as Sulodexide may not be suitable for you.

Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant. If you become pregnant while on Sulodexide therapy, alert your doctor immediately.
What should I take note of while taking this medicine?
For as long as you are taking this medicine, your doctor may need to perform certain tests to evaluate your blood's ability to clot and check your response to the medication regularly. Your doctor will advise you about how often you need to have these tests.
What side effects could I experience?
Sulodexide may cause any of the following side effects: diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I take this with other medicines?
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking blood-thinning medicines e.g. heparin, warfarin.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
What special dietary instructions should I follow?
Avoid alcohol.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place, away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
