Pharmacology: Shinoxol Tablet is a "mucus-modifier". Its active compound is Ambroxol. Several human studies showed that Ambroxol affects the secretomotor activity of serous glands, facilitates the repair of bronchial epithelium, and accelerates mucociliary transport and clearance.
Ambroxol, a metabolite of Bromhexine, has been found to stimulate the synthesis of lung surfactant, as the surfactant may play a role in airway mucus transport acting as a lubricant.
In several studies, Ambroxol also produced statistically significant symptomatic improvement, measured as difficulty in expectoration, coughing, presence of dyspnea and the auscultatory sign as compared to controls.
Absorption after oral administration of Ambroxol was found to be fast and complete. Elimination half-life in the blood was estimated as 20-25 hours in man. In man and rabbit, radioactive-labelled substance was excreted almost completely into the urine.
