Why do I need this medicine?
Selexipag is used on its own or together with other medicines to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (high blood pressure in the blood vessels leading to the lungs).
How do I take this medicine?
Take Selexipag exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

You may take this medicine with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Swallow the tablet whole. Do not divide, chew or crush the tablet.

The dose of this medicine will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment regimen depending on your condition, response and tolerability to this medicine.

Selexipag must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.
What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is within 6 hours before the next dose is due, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

If you missed your dose for 3 days or more, ask your doctor or pharmacist on how to restart your medication.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
When should I not use this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • history of heart attack within the last 6 months
  • history of stroke within the last 3 months
  • severe irregular heartbeat
  • severe coronary heart disease (poor blood flow to the heart muscle)
  • unstable angina (chest pain which occurs when the heart does not receive enough blood and oxygen)
  • weak heart that is not under close medical observation
  • inborn or acquired defect of the heart valves (not related to pulmonary arterial hypertension) that causes the heart to work poorly
  • severe liver disease
as Selexipag may not be suitable for you.

DO NOT take Selexipag with medicines used to lower your cholesterol and triglyceride (fats) levels, such as gemfibrozil.
What should I take note of while taking this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • narrowing or blocked veins in the lungs
  • liver disease
  • kidney disease
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

For as long as you are taking this medicine, you may need to have regular blood tests on your liver and thyroid function to check your body’s response to the medicine. Your doctor will advise you about how often you need to have these tests.
What side effects could I experience?
Selexipag may cause any of the following side effects: headache, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, flushing, jaw pain, joint pain, muscle pain, decreased appetite, stuffy nose, weight loss and pain in the extremities.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I take this with other medicines?
Do not take Selexipag with gemfibrozil (medicines used to lower cholesterol and fats levels).

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
  • blood-thinning medicine e.g. clopidogrel
  • medicine used to treat fungal infection e.g. fluconazole
  • medicine used to remove iron from the blood stream e.g. deferasirox
  • medicines for epilepsy (fits or seizure) e.g. phenytoin, valproic acid, carbamazepine
  • medicine used to treat TB (infection known as tuberculosis) e.g. rifampicin
  • medicine for HIV infection e.g. ritonavir
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Selexipag.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
What special dietary instructions should I follow?
Avoid alcohol.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
