Contents
Menthol, bismuth subgallate, calcium carbonate, zinc oxide.
Description
Each 100g of cream contains 1g menthol, 2g bismuth subgallate, 5g calcium carbonate and 8g zinc oxide.
Excipients/Inactive Ingredients: The other ingredients are: hard paraffin, glycerol, wool fat, glycerol mono-dioleate, polyoxyethylene-12-cetyl stearyl alcohol, purified water and as preservatives: butyl parahydroxybenzoate, ethyl parahydroxybenzoate (E214), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216) and methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218).
Action
Pharmacology: Pharmacodynamics/Pharmacokinetics: Rowatanal Cream has antiseptic and astringent (cleansing) properties. It relieves the intense itching and burning sensation associated with haemorrhoids.
Indications/Uses
For the treatment of haemorrhoids and proctitis (anal irritation).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply 2-3 times daily and after defecation. For internal haemorrhoids, use the cannula nozzle provided.
For rectal use only.
Contraindications
Do not use Rowatanal if the patient is allergic to menthol, bismuth subgallate, calcium carbonate, zinc oxide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Special Precautions
Talk to the doctor or pharmacist before using Rowatanal if the piles are bleeding or have been present for some time.
If the condition persists or worsens the patient should also consult the doctor.
Rowatanal contains glycerol, wool fat and parahydroxybenzoates. This medicine contains glycerol, which may have a mild laxative effect. It contains wool fat, which may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis). It also contains parahydroxybenzoates which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
Effect on ability to Drive and Use Machines: Rowatanal does not normally produce any effects on ability to drive or use machines.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
This product should not be used during pregnancy and lactation unless considered essential by the physician.
Ask the doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
Adverse Reactions
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
Side effects have been reported rarely with use of this and similar products. Side effects include a brief cooling sensation on application of the cream. Sensitivity reactions have been reported very rarely.
Rowatanal contains glycerol, wool fat and parahydroxybenzoates. (See Precautions for further information).
If any of the side effects get serious, or if the patient notices any side effects not listed in the leaflet, please tell the doctor or pharmacist.
Drug Interactions
Tell the doctor or pharmacist if the patient is taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
Storage
Do not store above 30°C.
Do not use the medicine after the expiry date, which is stated on both the outer carton and on the tube.
The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
