Racecadotril - oral

Patient Medicine Information
Why do I need this medicine?
Racecadotril helps to treat diarrhoea. It is usually used together with a plentiful liquid intake and usual dietary measures when these measures are not enough on their own to control the diarrhoea.

This medicine makes the stools firmer and less watery. It also helps to reduce the number of times you need to run to the toilet.
How do I take this medicine?
Take Racecadotril exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

You may take this medicine with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Racecadotril is available as a capsule, granules or powder for oral suspension.

If you are taking the capsule, swallow it whole with a glass of water. On the 1st day of treatment, your doctor may advise you to take it at any time of the day, then the following doses are preferably taken before main meals.

If you are taking the granules or powder for oral suspension, mix the contents with food or disperse it in a glass of water or a feeding bottle. Mix well and drink it immediately. You may also take the contents directly into your mouth. Ask your doctor or pharmacist the best way to take your medicine.

You may continue taking Racecadotril until you have 2 normal stools, not exceeding 7 days unless instructed otherwise by the doctor.
