Metoclopramide HCl
Indications/Uses
Prevention & treatment of vomiting due to irradiation-sickness, post-op & drug-induced nausea & vomiting.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Adult 10 mg tds. Childn 2.5-5 mg tds. Max: 0.5 mg/kg daily. Inj By IM/IV. Adult 10 mg tds. Childn 5-14 yr 2.5-5 mg tds, 3-5 yr 2 mg bd-tds, 1-3 yr 1 mg bd-tds, <1 yr 1 mg bd-tds. Diagnostic procedures Adult 10-20 mg given 10-15 min before exam. Max: 0.5 mg/kg daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 30 min before meals.
Contraindications
Phaeochromocytoma, GI haemorrhage, mechanical obstruction or perforation, epilepsy. Neonates, childn <2 yr.
Special Precautions
History of depression. 1st trimester of pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, hyperprolactinaemia, extrapyramidal reactions.
Drug Interactions
Anticholinergics, opioids, phenothiazines, haloperidol, alcohol, CNS depressants.
