Lignocaine Hydrochloride, Polymyxin B Sulphate.
Per mL Lignocaine Hydrochloride 2.00% w/v, Polymyxin B Sulphate 10,000 units.
Pharmacology: Mode of Mechanism of Action: Acetic acid solutions have antibacterial and antifungal activity, particularly against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, candida, and Aspergillus. The antimicrobial action of acetic acid reduces inflammation and edema and thus relieves the significant symptoms of external otitis.
Following topical application, corticosteroids produce anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and vasoconstrictor actions. Lignocaine is a local anaesthetics.
Polymyxin B is a effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia, and some other gram-negative organisms that commonly infect the ear. They lack ototoxic properties and therefore are particularly useful in patients with perforated ear drums or tubes.
Polymyxin B Sulphate is used for topical therapy, hence no pharmacological action noted.
Persistent otorrhoea, persistent Pseudomonas or coliform infections, Otitis externa, post-operative treatment.

Hypersensitivity to any ingredients in the preparation.
Prolonged use in cases with tympanic membrane damage.
If irritation or symptoms of sensitivity occur the medication should be discontinued. Corticosteroids may reduce resistance to and aid in the establishment of bacterial, viral or fungal infections and mask the clinical signs of infections, preventing recognition of ineffectiveness of antibiotic, or may suppress hypersensitivity reactions to substances in the product.
Prolonged use may produce degeneration of cochlear sensory cells.
