Indications/Uses
Control & treatment of abnormal postpartum uterine bleeding or hemorrhage.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Confirm ≥3 cm cervix dilation. Compress intrauterine loop near distal tip using hand then insert transvaginally. Attach sterile luer tapered syringe to fill cervical seal w/ 60 mL sterile fluid, may add another 60 mL to achieve coverage of external cervical os. Set vacuum source to 80±10 mmHg then connect to sterile vacuum tubing. Keep in place w/ vacuum until postpartum hemorrhage (PPH)/abnormal postpartum uterine bleeding is controlled for at least 1 hr, uterus is firm for 30 min & patient is stable. Reassess if treatment is not needed then slowly w/draw the device.
Contraindications
Untreated uterine rupture, unresolved uterine inversion; known uterine anomaly. Current cervical cancer & purulent vag, cervix or uterus infection. Ongoing intrauterine pregnancy. <3 cm cervix dilation for C-sections.
Special Precautions
Not a substitute for surgical management & fluid resuscitation of life-threatening PPH/abnormal postpartum uterine bleeding. Patients w/ disseminated intravascular coagulation; placenta accreta. Not to be left w/in the uterus for >24 hr. Do not increase vacuum pressure >90 mmHg. Never inflate w/ air, CO2 or any other gas. Avoid excessive force during insertion. Reassess & consider aggressive treatment & management for patients w/ deterioration or failure to improve. Remove air from cervical seal prior to use. Monitor blood flow into device or vacuum tubing &/or uterine tone improvement after initiation; presence of intermittent or continuous air flow during initiation. Avoid exposure to excessive temp & humidity. Gestational age <34 wk.
