Paracetamol
Indications/Uses
Mild to moderate pain & pyrexia in childn unable to take PO paracetamol eg, post-op or w/ nausea & vomiting.
Dosage/Direction for Use
125 mg Childn 1-5 yr, 10-20 kg 1-2 supp. 250 mg Childn 6-12 yr, 20-40 kg 1-2 supp. May be repeated up to max: 4 times in 24 hr.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Rectal bleeding or inflammation. Serious hepatic disorder.
Special Precautions
Not to be used if allergic to paracetamol. Discontinue use if severe skin reactions occur; pain persists >5 days or fever >3 days or in the event of aggravation. Severe or recurrent pain, high or continuous fever. Disclose intake in the event of uric acid or sugar content tests. Not to be taken w/ any other paracetamol-containing drugs. Renal & hepatic impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Rectal mucous membrane redness, minor local vascular changes; abnormally low platelet count; administration-related local effects; cutaneous hypersensitivity reactions eg, skin rashes, angioedema, SJS/TEN.
Drug Interactions
Increased hepatotoxicity & decreased therapeutic effects w/ hepatic microsomal enzymes drugs eg, alcohol, rifampicin, barbiturates & other anticonvulsants.
