Flucloxacillin is an antibiotic. It is used to treat certain bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, lungs, skin, bones, joints or bladder.
Flucloxacillin may be used to treat other conditions as decided by your doctor.
Take Flucloxacillin exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
This medicine should be taken on an empty stomach at least half an hour to 1 hour before meals.
Flucloxacillin is available as an oral capsule or oral suspension.
If you are taking oral suspension, shake the bottle well before use to ensure that the liquid is evenly mixed. Use the measuring spoon or cup provided to measure out your prescribed dose.
Flucloxacillin must be taken at regular intervals for it to be effective. Continue to take this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.
Do not skip any doses. You must complete the entire course of antibiotic. If you don't, the infection will not clear completely.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Alert your doctor if you have a history of allergic reactions (rashes, breathlessness, swollen mouth or eyes) to penicillin antibiotics (e.g. ampicillin, cloxacillin, penicillin V, sultamicillin) and cephalosporin antibiotics (e.g. cefaclor, cefalexin, cefuroxime).
Alert your doctor if you have a history of liver disease associated with Flucloxacillin as this medicine may not be suitable for you.
Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease.
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you are taking Flucloxacillin for a long period of time, your doctor may need to monitor your kidney and liver functions regularly.
