Fluticasone propionate
Indications/Uses
Reduces symptoms & exacerbations of asthma in patients previously treated w/ bronchodilator alone or w/ other prophylactic therapy. Prophylactic management of asthma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >16 yr Mild asthma 100-250 mcg bd. Moderate asthma 250-500 mcg bd. Severe asthma 500-1,000 mcg bd. Childn ≥4 yr 50-200 mcg bd, 1-4 yr 100 mcg bd administered via ped spacer w/ face mask.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if paradoxical bronchospasm occurs. Not to be used in acute attacks. Asthma deterioration/exacerbation. Pneumonia in COPD patients. Active or quiescent pulmonary TB; history of DM; Cushing's syndrome, Cushingoid features, adrenal suppression, decreased bone mineral density, cataract, glaucoma, central serous chorioretinopathy. Regularly monitor adrenocortical function in patients transferring from oral steroid therapy. Avoid abrupt w/drawal. High-dose & long-term use. Avoid concomitant use w/ ritonavir. Pregnancy & lactation. Growth retardation in childn & adolescents.
Adverse Reactions
Mouth & throat candidiasis. Pneumonia (COPD patients); hoarseness; contusions.
Drug Interactions
Increased plasma conc by ritonavir. Increased systemic exposure w/ ketoconazole.
