Demeclocycline - oral

Patient Medicine Information
Why do I need this medicine?
Demeclocycline is an antibiotic. It is used to treat certain bacterial infections of the lungs, eyes, bowel, urinary tract (e.g. urethra, bladder, kidney), nose and throat. It may also be used to treat sexually transmitted diseases, rare bacterial infections (e.g. plague), severe acne (also known as pimple), and infections caused by bacteria transmitted by certain animals, ticks, lice, fleas, and mites.

This medicine may also be used to treat hyponatraemia (low levels of sodium in the blood) due to a condition that occurs when there are excessive levels of antidiuretic hormones (hormones that help the kidneys conserve the right amount of water) in the body.

Demeclocycline may be used to treat other conditions as decided by your doctor.
How do I take this medicine?
Take Demeclocycline exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Take this medicine on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Try to take it at the same time each day.

The dose of this medicine will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment timeframe depending on the type and severity of your infection or condition.

Demeclocycline must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.

If you are taking this medicine to treat an infection, take it at regular intervals. Do not skip any doses. You must complete the entire course of this medicine. If you don't, the infection will not be properly controlled.
