Why do I need this medicine?
Darolutamide is used to treat men with prostate cancer that has not spread to other body parts and no longer responds to surgical or medical treatment which lowers testosterone (sex hormone).
How do I take this medicine?
Take Darolutamide exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Take it together with food or immediately after a meal. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Swallow the tablet whole.

The dose of this medicine will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the course of your treatment depending on your condition and tolerability to this medicine.

Darolutamide must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.
What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
What should I take note of while taking this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • heart disease e.g. recent heart attack, chest pain, weakness and inability of the heart to pump blood
  • have undergone a surgical procedure to improve and restore the blood flow in the heart
  • history of heart rhythm problems
  • severe kidney disease
  • moderate to severe liver disease
Darolutamide is not intended for use in women.

If you have a female partner who may become pregnant, you must use a highly effective birth control method to prevent pregnancy; if your partner is pregnant, you must use a condom to protect the unborn baby. Follow this advice during treatment and for 1 week after your last dose. You may wish to discuss birth control methods with your doctor or pharmacist.

Keep your appointments with your doctor. Your doctor needs to monitor your condition and check your response to the medication regularly.
  • Routine tests (e.g. liver and kidney function) may be done while you are being treated with this medicine. Your doctor will advise you about how often you need to have these tests.
  • Regular monitoring of signs of infection (e.g. cough, colds, flu) or toxicity may also be needed.
What side effects could I experience?
Darolutamide may cause any of the following side effects: tiredness, weakness or lack of energy, muscle pain, and rash.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
  • frequent or persistent sore throat with fever
  • chest pain, swelling in the legs, ankles, and feet, shortness of breath, rapid or irregular heartbeat
  • broken bones
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I take this with other medicines?
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
  • medicines for epilepsy (fits or seizures) e.g. carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin
  • cholesterol-lowering medicines e.g. rosuvastatin, atorvastatin, fluvastatin
  • medicines for irregular heartbeat e.g. amiodarone, quinidine, disopyramide, sotalol
  • medicines for mood disorders e.g. haloperidol
  • rifampicin (medicine to treat TB, lung infection known as tuberculosis)
  • methotrexate (medicine for cancer or certain immune disorders)
  • sulfasalazine (medicine for inflammatory disease of the bowel)
  • moxifloxacin (antibiotic)
  • methadone (strong painkiller)
  • itraconazole (medicine to treat fungal infection)
  • St. John's wort (herbal medicine)
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Darolutamide.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
What special dietary instructions should I follow?
Avoid alcohol.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Keep the bottle tightly closed after the first opening.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.

As Darolutamide is a cancer medicine, always return any unused or expired tablets to the clinic, hospital, or pharmacy for disposal. Do not throw it away in the household waste.
