Cephalexin
Indications/Uses
Resp tract infections, otitis media, skin & skin structure, bone & GUT infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Usual dose: 250 mg 6 hrly. Streptococcal pharyngitis, skin & skin structure infections, uncomplicated cystitis 500 mg 12 hrly. Cystitis Duration: 7-14 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillin. History of GI disease eg, colitis. Long-term use. Renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea & vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia, gastritis, abdominal pain. Hypersensitivity reactions. Genital & anal pruritus, genital moniliasis, vaginitis & vag discharge, dizziness, fatigue, headache. Eosinophilia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, slight ALT & AST elevations.
