Azithromycin
Indications/Uses
Mild to moderate upper & lower resp tract, skin & soft tissue infections, non-gonococcal urethritis & cervicitis due to Chlamydia trachomatis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Sexually transmitted infections caused by susceptible Chlamydia trachomatis, Haemophilus ducreyi, or Neisseria gonorrhoeae 1 g single daily dose. Total dose of 1.5 g given in 500 mg daily for 3 days. Alternative dose for 5 days administration: 1st day: 500 mg daily, 2nd-5th day: 250 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals or 1 hr before meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to azithromycin, erythromycin, or macrolides.
Special Precautions
Severe kidney impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, flatulence.
